asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of customs officers available to examine passengers' luggage at Cobh on occasions when the number of passengers exceeds 200.

The numbers of customs officers normally available to examine passengers' luggage at Cobh on occasions when the number of passengers exceeds 200 are as follows:—

Between 200 and 300 passengers, eight; between 300 and 400 passengers, ten. When the number of passengers exceeds 400 or when two liners arrive, such additional staff as is considered necessary is provided.

In addition, the chief preventive officer is usually present to supervise and two or more customs watchers are provided as required.
