asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the reason for the suspension of turf-cutting operations on Sharagh bog, County Tipperary; (b) the number of workers residing in the Counties of Tipperary and Offaly who lost their employment as a result, and (c) whether he has received representations in regard to having work resumed; and, if so, what action he has taken or proposes taking in this matter.

Turf-cutting operations are being continued in the present season on the Sharagh bog. The cutting operations this year will be confined to a shorter period than last year and, consequently, the number of men employed this year will not exceed 60, as compared with the 94 men employed at the peak of operations in 1949.
