Vol. 120 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Congestion.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he will take immediate steps to alleviate the serious problem of congestion in the townlands of Trista and Mountjubilee on the Bingham and Carter estates; whether he is aware of the most uneconomic state of the holdings in the area; and, if so, whether a large number of the tenants of these townlands will be migrated and the holdings of those remaining striped and fenced.

The Land Commission are taking active measures to relieve the congestion on these estates which comprised some 800 holdings. Several tenants have already been migrated and several rearrangement schemes have been carried out. Further rearrangement schemes are in the course of preparation.
