Vol. 120 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Repair.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the road leading into Gorry and Gowna bog, Athlone, is badly in need of repair; and, if so, whether a scheme for this necessary work will be carried out as soon as possible.

This question appears to refer to a bog in Garrynagowna and Carrickynaghtan. The road leading to the bog was repaired on several occasions and any further improvements will be considered in connection with the management and development of the bog.

Might I inform the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance that on Thursday, 27th April, I asked a question dealing with the same road into this bog and the reply I got on that occasion was that this bog was privately owned and the repair of the road in question was not, therefore, a matter for the Land Commission? I wonder how the Minister can reconcile the answer of the 27th April with the answer given to-day. I do not want to embarrass the Parliamentary Secretary. He may not know anything about it. Will he please refer the matter to the Minister so that we may at least have either the same answer or a correct answer?

I shall do so, but my information is that the description of the road given in the earlier question does not comply with the description of the road given to-day.

The Parliamentary Secretary does not seem to be aware that the road into Gorry and Gowna bog are one and the same. There is a scheme prepared and the money has been sanctioned for the repair of this road for a considerable time.
