Vol. 121 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Schools.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of the very bad condition of Reenascreena national school, County Cork, and, further, that the local contribution, plot, vesting, etc., for a new school have been arranged for locally, and if he will state the reason for the delay in advertising for tenders for its erection.

The working drawings and specification for the new school at Reenascreena are ready and the Commissioners of Public Works are in communication with the manager in regard to the arrangements for the invitation of tenders.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of the very bad condition of the national school at Glenville, County Cork, and if he will state what steps his Department are taking to have proper facilities provided in this area and when an improvement may be expected.

I am aware that the national school at Glenville, County Cork, is unsuitable and that it requires to be replaced by a new school.

A site for a new building has been offered by the manager, and it is hoped that a report as to its suitability will be available at an early date. There are certain other preliminary arrangements which must be made before the question of sanctioning a grant from State funds towards the cost of the new school can be considered. While I am unable to say, at this stage, when the erection of the new school can be proceeded with, the case will be expedited as much as possible.
