Vol. 121 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Defence Forces Pension Scheme.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will arrange that the provisions of the Defence Forces (pensions) scheme are made known to serving personnel by being read and explained to them frequently, and if he will also arrange to have copies of the scheme available for reference in barrack libraries and recreation rooms.

Arrangements have already been made to have the relevant provisions of the Defence Forces (pensions) scheme read and explained at intervals to noncommissioned officers and men of the forces.

Copies of the scheme will be made available for reference purposes in barrack libraries and recreation rooms.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will consider amending the Defence Forces (pensions) scheme to provide that in the calculation of years of qualifying service for a pension a period more than 180 days left over after division of the number of days' actual service by 365 shall be considered a year for pension purposes.

I do not propose to amend the Defence Forces (pensions) scheme as suggested by the Deputy.
