Vol. 121 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Representative for Córas Iompair Éireann Board.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the very considerable volume of agricultural produce and live stock transported by Córas Iompair Éireann, he will appoint a representative of the Agricultural Co-operative Societies and the Irish Sugar Beet Growers' Association on the new board of the company.

The members of the new board of Córas Iompair Éireann include persons with wide experience of the live-stock industry and of the milling industry. It would not be possible to include representatives of each of the different branches of agriculture.

Having regard to the fact that this is an agricultural country and that the whole economy of the country depends on the volume of agricultural produce, does the Minister not think that agricultural producers are entitled to some representation on the board of the national transport company which is transporting a considerable volume of their products?

They do not live to be old enough.

I would not mind talking to Deputy Lemass on that subject. Certainly they would have more wisdom than some of the Deputy's selections.
