Vol. 121 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cashel Branch Line.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when it is proposed to reopen the Cashel-Goulds Cross railway branch line.

It was formerly my practice to answer questions of this kind addressed to me by Deputies as I had certain functions under Section 9 of the Railways Act, 1933, in regard to any proposals made by the railway companies involving the discontinuance of railway services. Under Section 55 of the Transport Act, 1950, Córas Iompair Éireann will be required to obtain an exemption order from the Transport Tribunal established under the Act if it proposes to close permanently any line on which services are at present temporarily suspended under Emergency Powers Order. I have, accordingly, no function in the matter referred to in the question.
