Vol. 121 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exchequer Issues.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will explain why the Exchequer issues (and corresponding receipts) for the financial year ended March 31st, 1950, were set down in the issue of Iris Oifigiúil dated April 4th, 1950, as £103.546 millions while the figure given in the White Paper (Estimates of Receipts and Expenditure) issued in connection with the Budget statement of May, 1950, is £95.383 millions.

The statement of receipts and issues published weekly in Iris Oifigiúil gives the gross figures of receipts into and payments out of the Exchequer. Accordingly, the figure of £103,546,070 in the table published on the 4th April, 1950, showed the actual receipts into and issues out of the Exchequer during the financial year ended 31st March, 1950.

The difference of £8,162,830 between that figure and the figure of £95,383,240 given in the White Paper is accounted for by repayments of Ways and Means Advances and of Savings Certificates and the balance to the credit of the Exchequer at the 31st March, 1950 — all of which appear in the statement published in Iris Oifigiúil.
