Vol. 121 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bacon Retail Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether the average retail price of bacon has increased in recent weeks, and, if so, if he will state the cause thereof; and, further, if he will cause an inquiry to be made regarding the retail price of choice cuts.

The retail price of back and streaky rashers and of gammons has increased in recent weeks, as has the price of pigs, from 184/- per cwt. to 205/- per cwt. The public can help greatly in keeping bacon prices at reasonable levels if they would exercise a preference when shopping for flank, hock, collar, gammon hock, and narrow streak, and ask for these cuts of bacon by name.
