Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Harbour Development Schemes.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what schemes of harbour development were approved by him since April 1st, 1949, with, in each case, the total cost, the amount of the Government grant and the conditions, if any, attached thereto.

The reply is in the form of a tabular statement and, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, it will be circulated with the Official Report.

Dundalk

Dredging of harbour and approach channel and repair and replacement of buoys and beacons.

Full cost of works subject to local contribution referred to in column 5.

(a) A local contribution of £22,000 towards the cost of the works, this contribution to be fully absorbed before payments on foot of State Grants are made;

(b) undertaking to be given by the Harbour Authority to maintain these works fully so as to avoid the necessity of having to seek outside assistance in future;

(c) appointment of Consulting Engineer to be subject to the approval of the Minister;

(d) materials, appliances and fittings required for the works to be, wherever possible, of home manufacture.

Limerick

Completing the western entrance to dock, deepening old dock and closing the eastern entrance, and dredging river.

289,000

£100,000 or one-third of cost of works whichever is the less.

(a) Appointment of Consulting Engineer (if employed) to be subject to the approval of the Minister.

(b) materials, appliances and fittings required for the works to be, wherever possible, of home manufacture.

In addition, surveys at State expense have been authorised at Sligo, Wicklow and Wexford Harbours to ascertain the cost of the minimum works necessary at these harbours.
