Vol. 122 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Industrial Development.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the pressing representations made by the Mayor of Waterford, the President and Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and the Chairman and Secretary of the Harbour Commissioners on behalf of these public bodies, seeking special consideration for the claims of Waterford for muchneeded industrial development owing to the closing recently of four industrial enterprises there; and if he will state what recommendations have been made to him by the Industrial Development Authority to meet the grave needs of the city and county in this respect.

I am aware of the representations referred to. I am also aware that certain new industrial undertakings have recently been established at Waterford, and that the latest official returns available show a net increase in industrial employment there as compared with 12 months earlier.

Proposals for further industrial development in the area are at present before the Industrial Development Authority but I am not prepared to disclose the nature of these proposals.
