Vol. 122 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Market for Eggs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether any inquiry has recently been received from the Continent as to our surplus eggs; and, if so, if he will indicate the nature of the inquiry, and if no such inquiry was received, if he will state whether any effort has been made by his Department to explore the possibility of securing a market there for the sale of eggs.

A number of inquiries have recently been received. The prices and terms offered by the continental buyers were not such that any business could be done.

Could the Minister say what they were?

One offer was approximately 2/- per long hundred less than was available elsewhere and was on a c.i.f. basis; the second was accepted by us on a f.o.b. basis and was then repudiated by the buyer; and the third never passed the stage of inquiry and no offer was ever made.

Does the Minister mean long hundreds for the 2/- or long dozens?

Long hundreds — 2/- less than was available elsewhere.
