Vol. 122 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Hides.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that there is a very big difference in the prices paid here and in Great Britain for hides; and, if so, if he will take steps to ensure that Irish farmers and butchers receive a reasonably fair price for hides and pelts marketed by them.

I am aware that the prices obtained for hides and pelts in Great Britain are higher than those ruling here. I am, nevertheless, satisfied that the present range of prices is reasonable. An increase of 2d. per lb. in the case of hides was given last year and there are no fresh facts sufficient to justify any further increase.
