Vol. 122 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Teachers' Retiring Gratuities.

asked the Minister for Education whether he intends to introduce proposals for legislation to provide for the payment of retiring gratuties to teachers under the revised scale of salaries, and, if so, if he will take steps to have the necessary proposals introduced as quickly as possible in view of the fact that over six months have elapsed since the revised scale came into operation, and that teachers who retired on the 30th March, 1950, are greatly perturbed at the delay in the payment of their gratuity.

The necessary Statutory Order has been prepared and will, I hope, be circulated to members of the Oireachtas to-morrow.

I hope to have it passed by both Houses at once. Outstanding gratuity payments will then be made in the course of a day or two.
