Vol. 122 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Creamery Suppliers' Butter Ration.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what consultations took place with the representatives of the creamery industry prior to the decision to reduce the butter ration to creamery suppliers in view of his declared intention of consulting those engaged in the industry before making any decision adversely affecting them, and if he will state the attitude towards the proposals of those consulted.

There were no consultations with the representatives of the creamery industry prior to the decision to withdraw the special allowances of subsidised creamery butter to milk suppliers and no assurance had been given that such consultations would take place. The conditions under which these allowances were made available since 1944 no longer existed and, in the circumstances, the allowances ceased as from the 3rd June, 1950.

Will the Minister give his reasons for departing from the declared policy and intention of the Minister for Agriculture to consult creamery suppliers before making any decision affecting their interests?

So far as I am concerned, I have sufficient to do to look after my own intentions.

Therefore it is a matter of individual responsibility.
