Vol. 122 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Water Supply and Sewerage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that Robert's Cobh, County Cork, a popular seaside resort, has no water supply, not even a pump, and if he will request the local authority to give immediate attention to the provision of drinking water in this area.

I have no information in regard to this matter, but will cause the Deputy's representations to be brought to the notice of the local sanitary authority.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the cause of the delay in carrying out a water supply scheme for Churchtown village, County Cork.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state when sanction will be given for a new water supply scheme for Newtown-Shandrum village, County Cork.

I propose to reply to Questions Nos. 54 and 56 together.

There has been no delay in regard to these matters.

The proposal that piped water supplies be provided at Churchtown and Newtown-Shandrum was brought to the Department's notice for the first time on the 1st June when preliminary reports from the deputy county engineer were furnished.

These villages are at present supplied from pumps and the county council were asked for their reasons in proposing to provide these schemes in advance of others previously described as more urgent. A reply is awaited. In this connection I would refer the Deputy to a reply given to a question on the 14th ultimo, in which the general position in regard to water supplies in the North Cork area is set out at length.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the cause of the delay in giving sanction to a proposal submitted to his Department by the Cork County Council for a new water supply scheme for Ballyclough village, County Cork.

The plans for this scheme have been approved. The submission of a bill of quantities will be necessary before tenders can be invited.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state when approval will be given by his Department for the carrying out of a sewerage scheme for Doneraile town, County Cork.

A sewerage system has already been installed at Doneraile. On the 1st June the county council submitted a proposal to extend the scheme at Convent Road and Mallow Road.

As in the case of the new water supplies for which proposals were submitted on the same date, this proposal was not included in the very extensive programme of water and sewerage schemes for the North Cork area which had been previously agreed on and in the circumstances the council have been asked for their reasons in deciding to proceed with this work in advance of others previously described as being more urgent.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department have yet approved of plans submitted by the Cork County Council for a new sewerage scheme for Banteer village, County Cork.

The plans, specification and conditions of contract furnished in connection with a sewerage scheme at Banteer have been approved. The submission of a bill of quantities is awaited.
