Vol. 122 No. 9

Personal Explanation by Minister.

On a matter of personal explanation. On my Estimate it appears a statement was made by Deputy MacEntee which I did not hear and which was reported in the Irish Press as follows:

"In Dublin, he said, they had an individual driving while drunk, who had lost his licence in Glasgow, but nothing had been done about it. One must ask the reason why. Was it because there seemed to be some connection between those gentlemen and the Minister who placed a contract with them?"

The inference was that I did something or that I had a contract with somebody. I wish to say that I never stopped nor did any of my predecessors, so far as I know, ever stop prosecutions or direct the Garda to stay prosecutions and I have no contract with any person and know nothing about the matter whatever.
