Vol. 122 No. 9

Committee on Finance. - Vote 71—Transition Development Fund.

I move:—

That a sum not exceeding £2,000,000 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending the 31st day of March, 1951, for the Transition Development Fund.

May I say that my duty in this matter is only to supply the money. I have nothing to do with its distribution.

I think the Minister must have anticipated what I was going to say. The Minister on the 16th May made the following statement in the House:-

"In the county boroughs, except Dublin and Cork the total assistance given for a £1,000-house is £712. In Dublin and Cork it is £667."

The Minister for Finance?

Yes, the Minister for Finance. He stated:—

"In the county boroughs except Dublin and Cork the total assistance given for a £1,000-house is £712. In Dublin and Cork it is £667. I do not know how anybody can expect anything more."

I want to point out that that statement is untrue as far as Cork is concerned. We have got nothing from them yet.

I was not referring to the Transition Development Fund alone. There are all sorts of grants. The Deputy said that what I said was untrue. I can hardly accept that.

Your statement was incorrect, misleading——

And contrary to fact.

The Minister will not deny it.

I do deny it.

Vote put and agreed to.
