Vol. 122 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land for School Playgrounds.

asked the Minister for Lands why the Land Commission refused to allocate a parcel of land on Kingston estate, Keadue, County Roscommon, as a playground for the local school, situated about 50 yards from the estate in question, in view of the fact that the Reverend Manager of the school made application for the parcel about five years before the lands were divided, and if he will state whether it is now the policy of the Land Commission to refuse applications for land for use as playgrounds for school children.

The application for a site for a playground was fully considered. The school in question is 170 yards from the nearest point on the estate, not 50 yards as stated by the Deputy. To get from the school to the estate it is necessary to round a blind corner and cross the main Sligo-Cavan road, which is subject to heavy motor traffic.

The policy in regard to the provision of sites for playgrounds remains unchanged.
