asked the Minister for Agriculture whether an arrangement was made with two specified groups of seed importers during the emergency years for the importation of root seeds, operative for a period expiring 31st December next and if he will take steps to permit the importation of such seeds by any farmer or merchant desiring to do so in accordance with the practice which existed before the emergency.

Arrangements were made, but not exactly on the lines mentioned in the question, whereby the importation of root seeds was related to the home production of such seeds. It is my intention to terminate these importing arrangements at the earliest date possible, due notice of which will be given.
