Vol. 122 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Weather Station.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will arrange to establish the Cork weather station in a suitable location to enable it to provide the necessary facilities and information for the Cork air field.

In my reply to his previous question on the 12th July, I informed the Deputy that the new meteorological station at Roches Point would be established for the purpose of making weather observations, but not for weather forecasting. This location has been selected to give the most comprehensive country-wide coverage of weather conditions.

Apart from the fact that Farmers' Cross would not be a satisfactory alternative site for this station, its location there would not permit of regular air services being operated from that air field unless weather forecasts were provided and it would not be possible to provide forecasting staff for that purpose.
