Vol. 123 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New County Cork Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the present position regarding the new national schools at Clondulane, Fermoy; Curraghalla, Glanworth; and Araglen, Kilworth.

In the case of the proposed new Araglen National School, tenders for the erection of the school have been obtained and are under consideration at present by the Commissioners of Public Works.

As regards Curraghalla National School, I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that the plans and specification for the new school have been completed. It is expected that a lease of the site to trustees will be executed at an early date and the commissioners will then be in a position to invite tenders for the erection of the new school.

A suitable site has been obtained for the proposed new Clondulane National School, but certain preliminary arrangements have still to be made before a grant can be sanctioned by the Department towards the cost of the erection of the new building.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state whether the plans and specifications have been approved in respect of Mitchelstown and Midleton Vocational Schools; and, if so, when tenders will be invited.

The plans and specification for the Mitchelstown project have been approved and I have given the County Cork Vocational Education Committee authority to invite tenders.

The sketch plans for the Midleton school have been approved and I have authorised the County Cork Vocational Education Committee to have working drawings and a specification prepared for submission to the Department and these are awaited. When these documents have been examined and approved, sanction for the invitation of tenders will be given.
