Vol. 123 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Clare Limestone Grinding Plant.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) what steps he has taken to establish a limestone grinding plant in County Clare; (b) where this plant will be situate; (c) when the product will be available, and (d) the price of the product at the works.

As I have already informed the Deputy, the production of ground limestone is a matter for private enterprise. I have been encouraging a firm already engaged in the business to give favourable consideration to the erection of a plant in County Clare. I understand that the firm has secured a site near Ennis, that part of the plant is already installed and that production will commence very soon. It is expected that the price of the material ex works will be 16/- per ton, or spread on the land within a radius of 30 miles at 30/- per ton provided satisfactory demand is maintained.

I hope that the Deputy and all others interested in the matter will encourage farmers to place early orders for their requirements so that the plant may be kept in full production.
