Vol. 123 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clare County Council Engineers.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) how many engineers or surveyors are at present employed by Clare County Council; (b) the numbers similarly employed in 1920, 1930 and 1940, and (c) the total amount of (1) salaries; (2) allowances, and (3) travelling expenses in respect of these classes in each of the years 1920, 1930, 1940 and 1950.

There are no records either in my Department or in the offices of the Clare County Council which would enable me to give the information required in respect of the year 1920. The records in my Department in respect of the year 1930 show that six engineers were employed at a cost of £2,225 in salaries. No details of any allowances or travelling expenses paid are available.

In 1940 there were nine engineers employed, including two temporary engineers employed for a period of six months. This staff was paid £4,090 in salaries, £340 allowances and £1,821 travelling expenses. At present there are 15 engineers employed, including six temporary engineers, three of whom are engaged for a period of six months. The estimated cost of this staff is: salaries, £7,965; allowances, £420; travelling expenses, £2,718.
