Vol. 123 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Facilities at Ballyhaunis.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state when it will be possible to provide a public telephone for the post office at Tooreen, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo.

As I intimated in previous replies to Deputies, work on the Department's scheme to install a telephone in every post office was resumed this year. There are still over 700 post offices to be dealt with—most of them in remote areas—and the work will have to be spread over a number of years. In order that the best progress may be made, the order in which call offices are installed is determined mainly on engineering considerations. It is not possible to say at present when the call office will be provided at Tooreen.
