Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - E.R.P. Assistance Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total number of individuals and associations who have applied to date for facilities under the E.R.P. technical assistance scheme, the number to whom facilities were granted, and the details of the purposes for which they were allowed.

The total number of applications by private individuals, commercial undertakings and associations for facilities under the E.C.A. technical assistance scheme amounts to 44, of which eight have been approved by E.C.A. to date. These particulars are exclusive of projects originating in Government Departments and of joint technical assistance missions sponsored by O.E.E.C.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to have included in the Official Report a statement giving the details requested by the Deputy.

Visit to this country by U.S. experts to advise on the mechanical handling of turf, including “footing” operations; the provision of equipment to overcome damage to machines by timber obstructions on bogs and the reduction of time lost in avoiding timber; the recovery of by-products from turf; the industrial and domestic combustion of turf.

Electricity Supply Board

Visit of four senior engineers to the U.S. to study the design, construction, operation and maintenance of generating stations and interconnected high voltage transmission systems; load despatch control and communications on large interconnected electricity generating systems; distribution and sales of electrical energy.

Aer Lingus

Visit of six officials to the U.S. for periods varying from six weeks to three months to study the methods of U.S. air lines.

Certain hoteliers and others

Visit to the U.S. by a group of hoteliers and others, numbering, 18 in all, to study American hotel and tourist methods.

Institute of Industrial Research and Standards.

Provision of research and testing equipment.

Headmaster, Elphin Technical School.

Visit to the U.S. for a period of 12 months to study agricultural economics.

Macra na Feirme

Visit of the Organising Secretary to the U.S. to attend an “Open House for Rural Youth Leaders” held under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Certain Engineering graduates

Visit of a group of engineering graduates to take part in a course at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
