Vol. 123 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Visit to Russia.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware of the Press report that a lady described as a Dublin housewife and journalist has recently visited Russia and, with delegates from other countries, signed an agreed statement; if he can state whether this report is true; if so, if he can state whether this lady is a citizen of the Republic of Ireland; and, if she was a delegate from any Irish organisation, if he will indicate the nature and aims of such organisation.

The lady in question is an Irish citizen, and I do not think that any useful purpose would be served by my making a statement in regard to her activities.

Could the Minister see his way to answer the last portion of Deputy Brennan's question, as to whether this lady was a delegate from any Irish organisation or not, and would he be good enough to indicate the nature of her business in Russia?

I am not prepared to make any statement with regard to her activities. Police reports are involved and I do not intend to quote from them.

Would the Minister be prepared to give interested Deputies the information in confidence concerning the activities of this lady?

I do not think so. I am not going to give her free publicity.
