Vol. 123 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vesting of Holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that vesting of holdings is delayed by the Land Commission in cases where the allottees reside in council cottages as tenants and not as vested owners because it is the general practice of the Land Commission to tie the vested holding with the cottage, if vested, and in many cases tenants do not wish to purchase out the cottages; and, if so, if he will arrange for the vesting of holdings in such cases where land is properly managed.

I am aware of the position outlined in the question. These allotments were made for the accommodation of the occupiers of county council cottages and each accommodation plot and cottage form a unit. If provision were not made for the consolidation of the cottage and plot, the tenant would be free to sever the cottage from the plot after the latter had been vested.

This would negative the purpose of the allotment, and it is not proposed to alter the present practice.
