asked the Minister for Justice if he will state under what circumstances the depot of a Dublin firm and the head offices of the same firm were asked for particulars by telephone concerning the employment of a certain person, a native of Offaly, by the detective headquarters, Dublin Castle, and if he will state (a) the name of the person who so telephoned, (b) upon whose authority the telephone call was made, and (c) if any instructions have been issued to the Garda Síochána in connection with this practice, which is calculated to injure people in their employment, and against whom no charge can be brought or is contemplated.

Am I to understand from the Minister that no official inquiry of any kind was made and that he has no knowledge of any such inquiry having being made?
No official inquiry was made. I am informed that a Garda, for private reasons, got in touch with him, but there was nothing official about it. It was much the same as talking about a dog.
Will the Minister agree that it is a coincidence that other firms which employed this man were similarly telephoned by members of the Garda Síochána?
There is no official authority for any such inquiry.
If I place before the Minister information that firms which employed this man had been telephoned by the Garda Síochána, to the subsequent detriment of this man getting employment, will he take steps about it?
I will bring it to the notice of the Commissioner.
