asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether he has at any time since the Transport Act, 1950, came into operation, required Córas Iompair Éireann to furnish him under Section 16 of that Act with any information relating to its activities; and, if so, if he will indicate the nature of the information so obtained.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport Information.
As the Deputy will recall, the purpose of Section 16 of the Transport Act, 1950, was to enable Deputies to obtain, by means of parliamentary question, information on matters relating to the activities of Córas Iompair Éireann which affect the national interest. Twelve questions put down by Deputies since the establishment of the board on 1st June last related to matters which appeared to affect the national interest and when necessary information to enable these questions to be answered was obtained from Córas Iompair Éireann. The questions and replies may be consulted in the Official Reports. Any information required from Córas Iompair Éireann for the purpose of answering parliamentary questions or for other purposes has been furnished on request and it has not been necessary on any occasion to avail of the statutory powers contained in Section 16.
