Vol. 123 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchases of Land.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (i) the total acreage of lands purchased (a) at public auctions, and (b) by voluntary agreement under the provisions of the Land Act, 1950, and (ii) the average price per acre paid under each of the headings (a) and (b).

No lands have yet been purchased at public auctions. The legal formalities for the operation of certain provisions of the Land Act, 1950, including Section 27, have not been completed.

Since the passing of the Land Act, 1950, agreement has been reached for the purchase of 2,885 acres at an average price of £21 an acre. For obvious reasons possession of estates is usually taken in the latter part of the year.
