Vol. 123 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aer Lingus Conferences' Representatives.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state under what circumstances and on how many occasions non-nationals have represented Aer Lingus at foreign air conferences.

The selection of personnel to represent Aer Lingus at foreign air conferences rests entirely with the company as a matter of internal administration and is one in regard to which I have no function. Consequently, I regret that I am not in a position to provide the Deputy with the information which he seeks.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary not consider that it is undesirable that an Irish air company like Aer Lingus should be represented by non-nationals at foreign air conferences?

I wonder is the Deputy aware that the shares of Aer Lingus are partly held in this country and partly by British interests.

51 per cent. of the shares are held in this country.

In the circumstances, if at certain times the company has to be represented at a conference, it is natural to expect that some of the persons representing it might be non-nationals.

Is it not possible to have a national to take the place of Mr. Stuart Shaw?

Up the Republic.
