Vol. 123 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Skerries Harbour.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that it has been necessary for cargo boats to unload at Skerries harbour occasionally owing to lack of accommodation at the port of Dublin and if, since Skerries harbour is ideal for this purpose, he will now request the Dublin Port and Docks Board to consider the question of providing an auxiliary harbour at Skerries by extending and developing the present harbour so as to relieve congestion at the port of Dublin.

I am informed by the Dublin Port and Docks Board, which is the authority responsible for the administration of Skerries Harbour, that it has never been necessary to divert cargo boats to Skerries owing to lack of accommodation at the port of Dublin. The board also assure me that there is no congestion at the port of Dublin of a nature which could be relieved by the extension and development of the harbour at Skerries.
