Vol. 123 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Report on Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether an eminent Dutch engineer has been called into consultation in connection with the proposed Brick and Cashen drainage scheme; and, if so, whether the engineer has furnished any report and if the Minister will give particulars of that report.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to answer Questions Nos. 50 and 51 together.

Expenditure incurred on the preparation of the Feale catchment drainage scheme to date does not fall to be met from the provision of £20,000 in sub-head J (2) of the current year's Vote for Public Works and Buildings. Certain expenditure from that provision will, however, be incurred before the end of the financial year, but I am not at present in a position to say how much.

Consultations with a Dutch engineer, which are still in progress, are confined to determining the best method of dealing with the estuary. The detailed design for the catchment proper has been completed, and the scheme will be on exhibition locally before Christmas.
