Vol. 123 No. 8

- F.C.A. Uniforms.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that there is a serious scarcity of uniforms for members of the F.C.A.; and, if so, if he will undertake to have this matter remedied.

I am not aware of any scarcity of uniforms for members of the F.C.A. but I am prepared to consider any evidence in that regard which the Deputy may have.

Is the Minister aware that, in Athlone, there is a shortage of uniforms for members of the F.C.A., and that, in the case of some of the uniforms which are available, they are not of suitable sizes and that a man may be offered a uniform three or four sizes too small? That position has existed for the past two years.

I am not aware of what the Deputy has stated, but I have asked the Deputy to give me evidence of any deficiency. I have here a list of stores held in reserve in the Western Command and it does not seem to bear out the Deputy's statements. Any information the Deputy gives me will be looked into. I do not want to see men without uniforms. I may say that there are a great number of people here and there whose only attendance at F.C.A. functions is on the occasion of the issuing of uniforms. It is not the practice to give them out to such people.

I am not talking of those.
