Vol. 123 No. 8

- West Cork Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will indicate the areas for development under the rural electrification scheme in West Cork and the present position regarding the provision of electric current for Castletownbere.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that four areas have already been developed in West Cork under the rural electrification scheme, viz., Lisavaird, Skibbereen, Baltimore and Ballinascarthy. Three other areas—Schull, Barryroe and Cloughduv—are at present under examination in final detail and will be considered by the board for selection towards the end of the present year.

I am also informed that an official canvass is at present proceeding at Castletownbere. If this should be satisfactory, the area will be considered by the board for selection in competition with other areas in County Cork and elsewhere. It is, however, impossible to forecast whether this area will qualify for selection.
