Vol. 123 No. 8

- Cavan Inquiry Costs.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give an assurance that the cost of the recent protracted sworn inquiry held by inspectors of his Department into the discharge by the Cavan County Manager of his duties will not fall on the ratepayers of the county in view of the fact that neither they nor the county councillors elected by them had any knowledge of or control in the matters investigated.

I am not in a position to give any assurance of the nature requested by the Deputy as the law provides that such portion of the costs of local inquiries as may be required to be certified by the Minister and such other costs as may be certified by him shall be paid by the local authorities concerned.
