Vol. 123 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware of the urgent necessity for a public telephone kiosk in Blanchardstown; and, if so, if he will arrange to have a kiosk erected there as soon as possible.

I regret that the use likely to be made of a public telephone kiosk at Blanchardstown would not be sufficient to justify the erection of one there.

Mr. Burke

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that there is an urgent demand for a telephone kiosk in this area? If people there want to use a telephone there is no opportunity of doing so when the post office is closed. Will the Parliamentary Secretary ask the Minister to reconsider his decision, because the people there badly require a kiosk?

One could not be established there because it would not pay; that is the information at my disposal. There may be need for a kiosk, but it would not pay.

Mr. Burke

That is prejudging the position.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is in a position to state when a telephone communication line will be connected to Aghinagh post office, County Cork.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply on the 8th November to Deputy Commons regarding the provision of a call office at Tooreen, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo.

It is not possible to say at present when a call office will be provided at Aghinagh.
