Vol. 123 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wool Shortage.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that over 200 persons have lost their employment with a Cork woollen mills due to the shortage of wool; and, if so, if he will indicate what steps, if any, he proposes to take to ensure that this and other mills where unemployment has occurred will receive sufficient supplies of wool to enable them maintain their workers in employment.

I am aware that there is unemployment in the spinning department of a certain Cork woollen mills. I am informed that this reduction in employment is due to the fact that the company has been experiencing consumer resistance as a result of which their orders have fallen.
