Vol. 123 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - British Forces in Six Counties.

asked the Taoiseach if he has seen the recent statements of protest issued on behalf of the Egyptian people by their Government and leaders against the British occupation of portion of the Egyptian people's territory, and if he will make, on behalf of the Government, a statement similar in character concerning our determination to procure the withdrawal of the British Forces from our six occupied counties.

The answer to the first part of the question is "yes." As to the second part, the British Government are well aware of the attitude of the Government and of the overwhelming majority of the people of Ireland towards Partition, and I do not think that any further statement is necessary.

In view of the identity of interest which exists between ourselves and the Egyptian people arising from the wrongs suffered by us and by them at the hands of the same aggressor, would the Taoiseach consider making a statement expressing on behalf of the Irish people our sympathy with the Egyptians in their struggle against British Imperialism?

That is a separate question.
