Vol. 123 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Killarney District Hospital.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that plans and specifications have been prepared for the erection of an addition to the Killarney District Hospital by which provision would be made for ten maternity beds, and if he can now state when the scheme will be put into operation.

Plans in connection with this project were approved by my Department on 23rd March, 1950, and the local authority was informed at the same time that, subject to acceptance of some slight modifications suggested, the preparation of contract documents should be proceeded with. These documents have not yet been submitted to my Department for approval, and, accordingly, I am not in a position to state when work on the project will commence.

On the 19th October, 1950, the local authority submitted an alternative suggestion to utilise the Killarney Fever Hospital as a district hospital and thus obviate the necessity for the proposed extension of the existing district hospital. This suggestion is at present being considered in my Department.
