Vol. 123 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ordnance Survey Staff.

asked the Minister for Finance whether members of the staff of the Ordnance Survey Office, Phoenix Park, are entitled to free medical treatment; and, if so, whether this treatment is provided for all staff members.

All members of the ordnance survey staff are provided with free medical treatment while on survey work on the field. In addition certain members of the staff who were recruited prior to December, 1933, are provided with free treatment while working at the Phoenix Park headquarters.

Does the Minister see any objection to making this free medical treatment available to all members of the staff at Phoenix Park?

Yes. I think a case can be made for free medical treatment of the people who are working on types of ground which expose them to a variety of accidents or which may subject them to cold, abrasions, and a lot of other things. The same does not arise in the case of those at headquarters.
