Vol. 123 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment of Displaced Persons.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that a report of a meeting of the Meath executive of the Federation of Rural Workers published in a provincial newspaper on 25th November, 1950, stated that the federation has refused to agree to Bord na Móna's suggestion to import 200 displaced persons, and if he will state whether any such suggestion was made by Bord na Móna; and, if so, whether he was consulted regarding it, and if he will also state the position in regard to the employment here of displaced persons generally.

I was consulted by Bord na Móna on the possibility of allowing a number of displaced persons to enter the country in the board's employment.

Displaced persons may not be employed except under permit, and before an employment permit is granted in respect of a displaced person, full consideration is given to the state of employment in the industry or occupation concerned.
