Vol. 124 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Banks' Standing Committee.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state whether, during the course of the recent bank strike, he had interviews with the Irish Banks' Standing Committee, if it is correct that some members of this committee are not Irish nationals, and if he will say whether he proposes to recommend to the Government the introduction of proposals for legislation which will preclude non-nationals from having a voice in the control of a service so vital to the community.

During the recent bank strike I had no interviews with the Irish Banks' Standing Committee. I had discussions, however, with representatives of the Irish Bankers' Joint Committee, which is concerned entirely with staff matters and is distinct from the Irish Banks' Standing Committee. Every such representative who was present at any interview with me was an Irishman.

The answer to the final part of the question is in the negative.
