Vol. 124 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reconstruction of County Kerry Bridges.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the Kerry County Council and the county engineer recommended that the bridges on the Inny river, Mastergeehy, County Kerry, be reconstructed under the Local Authorities (Works) Act; and, if so, whether he will sanction the carrying through of this urgent scheme at an early date.

The Kerry County Council have applied for approval to the carrying out, with the aid of grant for works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, of repair and restoration work on certain bridges which were damaged by flood. The type of work proposed by the council was not in the main for the purpose of affording protection or relief from damage caused by flooding and would not, therefore, come within the scope of the Act. I understand, however, that certain works of a protective nature may now be necessary in the areas affected and I am accordingly arranging that an engineering inspector of the Department will examine the sites and report on the present position.
