Vol. 124 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state why forestry workers in County Dublin, unlike forestry workers in other counties, are not being paid the wage rate paid to workers employed by the county council.

The position, as outlined by me in reply to a similar question by the Deputy on 28th March, 1950, is unchanged.

Would the Minister be so kind as to answer the question: why are these men being victimised; why are they not paid the same as forestry workers in the rest of the country, that is the prevailing county council rate for labourers?

They are paid the same as the forestry workers in Wicklow.

I understand that the position is that forestry workers are paid the rate which prevails in the county council. The workers employed on forestry in County Dublin are not getting the county council rate in that area. Why?

There is only a small number of forestry workers working in County Dublin. The area in which they are occupied is actually in County Wicklow and they receive the same rate as the Wicklow forestry workers.

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the Minister's reply, I propose to raise this matter on the Adjournment.
