Vol. 124 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Attempted Derailment.

Mr. Brady

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state, with reference to the recent attempt to derail a train on the Harcourt Street-Bray line (a) the number of passengers on the train when it was pulled up; (b) the number of people thought to have been involved in the attempted derailment; (c) the extent to which they used railway property for their purpose; (d) the rank of the officer in charge of investigations and the nature of such investigations; (e) whether any arrests have been made, and (f) whether it is likely that anyone will be brought to trial.

There were about 30 passengers on the train. Two obstructions were placed on the line. A sleeper supported by three stones appears to have been placed across the tracks about 400 yards on the Bray side of Foxrock station, and 12 iron "chairs", each weighing about 50 lbs., and a steel tie bar were found on the line about 50 yards on the Dublin side of Foxrock station. No arrests have yet been made, but the matter is still the subject of Garda investigation. In order to avoid endangering the success of the investigations, I consider that it would be undesirable to make public the other information asked for in the question.

Mr. Brady

The investigations have not been completed yet?

They are still proceeding.
