Vol. 124 No. 5

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Animal Feeding.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (i) the country of origin of the wheat at present being milled for animal feeding; (ii) the total quantity in tons imported in 1950; (iii) the c.i.f. price per ton and (iv) the retail price when the product is being sold as pollard in lots under one ton.

No wheat has so far been imported specially for animal feeding. The wheat at present being milled for that purpose is that portion of the wheat stocks held by the millers which is least suitable for the production of flour for human consumption.

While there is no official control on the retail price, the flour millers are authorised to sell white pollard in cwt. lots at 30/- per cwt. carriage paid to the purchasers' nearest railway station.

As wheat stocks from accumulated stores are released for this purpose corresponding quantities will be purchased from abroad at prices lower at present than are payable for maize or other suitable coarse grains.
