Vol. 124 No. 5

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employees of Government and Local Authorities.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of persons employed in Government services and by local authorities in each of the years from 1947 to 1950 in continuation of the figures given in Table 16 of the White Paper on National Income and Expenditure.

The particulars of employment which the Deputy requires are as follows:—

Year

Government Service (Civil Servants and Garda Síochána)

Local Authority Service

1947

44,600

54,000

1948

46,400

56,400

1949

46,000

55,800

The particulars for 1950 are not yet available.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary be good enough to repeat the figures? Some of them were inaudible on this side of the House.

I thought I spoke loudly enough.

I can assure the Parliamentary Secretary he did not.

He is a bit deaf.

That might be.

Are you ashamed of the figures? Why not read them out audibly, if you are not?

I am not a bit ashamed. The Deputy will see them in the Official Report.
